Learning Journey

Each child’s development is unique and special. In line with the EYFS and with the permission of the parent, I observe children's learning whilst they are with me. I take photographs, which show their child's learning and store them in a beautifully presented individual record for each child in my setting called a Learning Journey Journal. This booklet is always available for the parent to see and is theirs to take away when their child leaves my setting. I have found that parents are very impressed with these books and are pleased to have a photographic record of their child's learning. My observations are extremely important as they allow me to plan individual play activities, which are designed to specifically support your child's development. Every parent is given their child's book to look through at the end of each term when they are welcome to come and discuss their child's progress with me. This Learning Journey charts your child’s progress and will contain details of their progress whilst with me. Any key milestones, creative work or significant achievements will be recorded along with supporting photographs of your child at play.

The six areas of Learning are:

Every one of these areas of Learning and Development are equally important and are closely interwoven together to support a rounded approach to child development. All learning based around the six areas of learning will be delivered through individual planning and purposeful play, with a balance of adult-led and child-initiated activities. The observations and assessments are ongoing, will happen informally and are carried out within the structure of your child’s normal daily activities. From time to time this Learning Journey will be sent home for you to look at and comment upon.

I hope that you will enjoy being part of this process.
